Everybody likes to celebrate “St’Valentine’s Day”. Do you know that in Armenia young people have a

holiday of Saint Sarkis. Captain St. Sarkis is one of the most beloved saints among the Armenian nation.

He helped young people to find their love and marry. Young people believe that this day St’Sarkis flies

over the sky on his white horse and brings success and happiness. This day lovers give valentine cards,

flowers and sweets to each other.

Veronica, did you hear about this holiday?

Of course I’m not St’Sarkis, but I want to give you a part of my heart. (giving hearts)

Teacher: Ok! Now Ayal will you help me? Come here. Imagine that you are from Buryatia.

Seventy days after Ramadan comes the greatest religious holiday Kurban-Bairam. It has no fixed

It is a holiday of sacrifice. A Turkish word Kurban means sacrifice, and bairam means a holiday.

Every Muslim should make a sacrifice of a lamb. All Muslims are supposed to give alms during the

holiday. Kurban-Bairam is celebrated three days.

A special table is reserved for the holiday a lot of meat, sweet biscuits, tea, coffee. Every visitor first of

all should taste sweet biscuits. Because it is a sign of a sweet life.

Teacher: I hope that you have done the task and now let’s check your answers.

By the way children what is it? It’s tubeteika. The national traditional cap of Tatar and Bashkir

people. I invite you to another national holiday –

Sabantuy. Who wants to read? Can you Denis?

(4 слайда)

TEXT 1- Sabantuy is, perhaps, the most popular festival in Bashkortostan and Tatarstan. It is "a

celebration of the plough" (in their language "saban" means "plough" and "tuy" means "festival"). This

holiday takes place at the beginning of summer, after the first haymaking. During this festival there are a

lot of spectacular competitions. The most exciting are the horse races.

Another popular competition is the national wrestling. At the end they choose a winner. He is

usually given a good prize.

Teacher: Thank you. I want to add that there are also a lot of funny competitions and sport games, for

example, egg-races, "running-in-sacks" races. Climbing up a high pole is rather difficult, but it’s very

funny. The prize is a big cock, sitting on the top! In the villages young women usually make presents for

the winners. Everyone tries to show his or her ski .Are there any “booturs” in your class who will try to

catch the cock? You see our cock is high enough. You must jump and take it. Like this. Look at me! Oh,

I can’t. I’ ll give you a prize. So, come on, it’s time to show your skills! Well done!

Teacher: Another popular tatar youth festival is “Koz Umyacu ("a goose feather") - it’s an ancient tatar

holiday, when tatar boys and girls sit together and pluck the geese (during this work young people know

each other and can choose future partners and make a new family). I suggest you to play a funny game.

Who wants to pluck the geese as quicker as possible? I need three volunteers. I give you our white big

geese. Come on. Others please help me to count till ten. One, two…

Teacher: Here is the winner! Now, children you see that tatar people like to have fun very much! I hope

you enjoyed it too!

Let’s continue to read! (7 слайдов) TEXT 3

TEXT 3 Another holiday that is celebrated around the same time of year is Ramadan, the Muslim

religious month of fasting during which Muslim are asked to concentrate on their faith and focus less on

daily activates. It is a time of worship and contemplation.

During the fast of Ramadan strict limitations are placed on the behavior of Muslim. They may not eat

or drink during daylight hours. Smoking and sexual activities are also forbidden during fasting. At the end

of the day, they break the fast with the evening meal.

Also during Ramadan it is common to spend many hours a day in prayer. It is believed that this time

of year helps Muslim to become stronger in their faith and in their character.
